Thanks Kathi, Getting Rid of Pain Allows Us To Get On With Our Lives

"STOP Back Pain! Kiss Your Back, Neck and Sciatic Nerve Pain Goodbye!" by Kathi Casey, ERYT, CPI is for those of us who are out of shape from daily stressful lives and taking no time for ourselves and for those of us who sit too long at work until we have "computer neck" and more. Her techniques are helpful for those who have just gotten over an illness and require physical rehabilitation and energy rejuvenation. For those like me, Kathi Casey focuses on the causes and methods for relieving sciatic pain. Trained in Yoga, Pilates, Somatics and Acupressure, she provides a variety of photographically illustrated techniques, along with easy instructions, to reduce pain, gain flexibility, and lose weight. She features one important pose that relaxes all of the muscles in our bodies without medication. When using this pose prior to the seven major stretching exercises she proposes, the Yogic strengthening methods become easier to do. She includes stretches for all muscles around your hip, lower back, and buttocks as well a neck-and-shoulder maneuver done with finger pressure on applicable muscle points. . . and more. Deep breathing techniques are used while doing her stretch routine. You can modify and replace certain exercises with alternatives so you can fully participate. I know from my personal experience that lying around waiting for the back pain to go away has never been an option. Prolonged rest only creates more weakness, pain, and stiffness. Taking the initiative to make our lives as muscular-skeletal pain-free as possible is the better solution. That is why I highly recommend "Stop The Back Pain" which provides the basic fundamentals for relieving pain. This book is more user-friendly and motivational than most books on this subject.

Excellent book for any type of back or shoulder pain--readon...

After an auto accident a number of years ago, I was told that I would semi recover, yet still have chronic shoulder problems due to a severe injury to my right trapezoidal shoulder muscle. This muscle was ripped and torn and to this day, I still have on and off chronic pain with it. After trying many types of remedies with not much relief, I bought this book. And after reading this book, I was able to understand the reasons for this type of pain. This book gives suggestions of different types of treatments and remedies.
The chapters in this book that have been of the greatest of help to me are:
Chapter 3: Types of Treatment --- In this chapter the author gives 5 types of treatments for back pain. The first four are more of the holistic nature, which I have found will be more of value to me as conventional medicine has not helped me that much and I choose not to take "heavy medications". The five suggested treatments mentioned in this book are:
1) Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
2) The Lifeline Technique
3) The Sedona Method
4) The Mind Body Prescription
5) Surgery
In addtion to chapter 3, chapter 4 gives advice on ICE treatment, Heat treatment, patches, creams and gels with wonderful suggestions.
Chapter 5 is another very helpful chapter called "The East West Connection" This chapter gives superb insight for using Yoga, Qigong, Ayurveda, and Healing Touch/Reiki. These types of eastern treatment go back for thousands of years and are become more and more in use in the United States these days as for many people, these methods of healing are quite effective.
Chapter 6 - Stress and Your Back and Neck Pain - explains how stress can bring on pain in the body especially in the neck, shoulder and back! And the author suggests breathing exercises in order to calm both the mind and also the body!
Chapters 8 - 10 have excellent exercises and stretches (some as gentle yoga exercises that I have tried and so far seem to be very effective).
The conclusion of this book has an very through list of resources and a reading list that is very helpful that gives more detailed information regarding health and healing.
The most special aspect that I found in reading this book was the fact that the author herself, has suffered back pain and went on her own healing journey and spent many hours of research in the studies of back-neck-shoulder pain. This book, in my opinion was written not only very well, yet written from the heart! In reading this book, I felt that I had a sympathetic friend beside me explaining about back-neck-shoulder pain. This book, I highly recommend to anyone who suffers from back, neck or shoulder pain!

Finally Getting Relief

I have been suffering for 15 years with pain in my back, buttock, hips, and legs. I have been going to doctors of all kinds and I have received temporary relief. For the past 6 months I have seen a chiropractor and massage therapist and I still have not received relief. Maybe for a day or two and then it was back.
I found this book and decided to give it a try. I am finally getting some relief from techniques suggested from this book. I still have some pain but I am able to stop during the day and get relief from these techniques.
I have discovered that my pain is probably sciatic nerve related and with just the relaxation technique and one of the stretch exercises I am able to get relief and I am able to actually function with daily tasks. I am looking forward to adding other techniques and suggestions from this book and making them part of my daily exercise.
I highly recommend this book. It is a short read yet very informative.
