The book is well thought out, well laid out and an outstanding addition for anyone in the industry. About the Author
Arnold Henry, former NCAA Division I basketball player, is a nonfiction author, a motivational speaker and a skill development basketball trainer who strives to inspire youth through the use of his personal life experience. He was born on February 11, 1985 on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia where he was presented the 2001 National Junior Male Basketball Player of the Year award. Two years later, upon completing a post-secondary year at Massanutten Military Academy of Woodstock, Virginia, Arnold accepted an offer from the University of Vermont, where he became the first Saint Lucian freshman to achieve a full basketball scholarship. In spring 2009, Arnold obtained his bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems. Arnold Henry has held multiple book signings and motivational speaking engagements in cities across Canada, England, Mexico, and Saint Lucia. He was one of the featured authors of Calgary’s 16th annual Wordfest. When he’s not writing or working on his public speaking skills, he’s volunteering his time using his words of empowerment to motivate foster kids and at risk youths of selected programs across the city. Arnold has spoken at literary conferences, libraries and dozens of high schools in Alberta encouraging students to triumph over all adversities. Arnold congratulations on another good read. As with the last book I was did not want to stop reading. I must say though this one was bitter sweet in my opinion but as I told you I will not judge you.

I am happy that you made it this far in life considering what you have been through. The main thing is that you are aware, acknowleged and acted which is a great trait. You are amazing. I am certain you will inspire others the way you did me. I pray the good Lord continues to guides and protects you so that you can be the father that you never had to your son.

Keep your head high and continue to have faith. I wish you all the best and keep haning on to your dreams.

My View of This Book

I read Helter Skelter in its first edition publishing in the 70's. In the late 70's I also obtained and read Susan's book "Child of Satan, Child of God". I recommend the book if only to read thoughts from one of Manson's most notorious associates and one of the principle participants in the Tate murders.

But what the book represents is less of insight into the mind of a killer and more of an effort to demonstrate to the world that Susan Atkins had now (at the time she wrote this) separated herself from Manson's lethal ideology and recognized that she had made an error "allowing" herself to be controlled by Manson.

What is disappointing though, is that Atkins never (in my feeling) takes full responsibility for her actions during the deadly Manson Family era. I finished the book feeling her words were designed to impress the reader that her participation in the killings were more the direct result of Manson's influence over her, and less of the reality she was a willing participant.

In that sense it appeared she was trying to lay the early ground work for what would become numerous parole board appeals. From early on in their incarcerations, most Manson Family members, now separated from the notorious Charlie and his influence and surrounded by institutional reality, suddenly wanted the world to believe they had changed and deserved a "second chance" with release from prison. This book looks to be written for that specific goal in mind.

The Manson murders continue to fascinate even after all these years. Though they are easily forgotten now after so many decades have faded the memories, they still represent an astounding aberration of human nature in an era in which society was seeming to transform itself from relative orderliness to a complex mix of youthful rebellion, rejection of authority and the overt influence of drugs, "free love" and competing views on the role and motives of government in our lives.

scary, very scary....

I sincerely hope Miss Atkins is the changed person she claims to be in this book, but frankly, I find it almost impossible to believe anything she says. She has told so many lies over the years about the Tate-LaBianca case, I think it's quite possible that even she doesn't know the truth anymore.
Like the rest of the convicted killers involved in the Tate-LaBianca murders, she cops out by saying she had been brainwashed by Manson and had little control over her actions. I believe Manson knew who had the ability to kill and who didn't, and chose the people who went out to kill seven innocent people very carefully. Although Manson had the ability to capitalize on their weaknesses, the end result was these heartless people CHOSE to do his bidding. They could have gone back and told Charlie no one was home or simply refused his request in the first place.
I simply can't conjure up any sympathy for anyone who is capable of comitting such a heartless act and the thought of someone like that being free to walk among us again is terrifying. Atkins claims she has found god and tells us he has forgiven her. I believe god can forgive anyone for anything if that person is truly remorseful for his or her sins, and if he has forgiven her, then her afterlife is assured. However, she is being held in prison because she comitted a crime against society, and society says she will rot in a jail cell for her unspeakable crimes. It's incredibly obscene for someone like Miss Atkins to place such a high value on her own life, when she had no hesitation whatsoever about taking the life of an eight and half month pregnant woman who pleaded in vain for her life and that of her unborn child.
Seven innocent people are in their graves and they will never get a second chance. The killers deserve the same fate.

Interesting view from Sexy Sadie

I am enthralled with the Mason Family, particularly the minds of the women so I thought this would be a good book to gain insight into the mind of "Sexie Sadie", Susan Atkins. It was an easy read, I zipped right through it in a few days. Basically, it starts with a tiny bit of information on Susan's childhood and journey to San Francisco where she met Charlie. From there, it brushes gently over the details and events that occurred with the Tate/LaBianca murders. The last portion of the book, the majority, is her time in prison and her rebirth through Christianity. The primary focus being her rebirth. She definitely becomes intensely Christian, going into her new baptism, constant quotations from the bible and speaking in tongues. I bought it with hopes that I'd gain insight into her mind and the reasoning for the gruesome acts she committed but none of that was touched on, it is simply a book explaining her acceptance of Jesus Christ as her savior, becoming a child of God. I think that's fine, whatever made her happy, whatever gave her true peace within her tortured soul. If you're interested in reading about each Manson Family member and their take on their experience, then do read this book. I'm glad I did. If you want a detailed account of the crimes, investigation, and trial, read Bugliosi's book. But what the heck, read both, it's an easy read.

About the Author
Jelbert has spent the last five years researching the psychology of happiness. His first book, The Happiness Animal became a best seller and is recognized as the first practical exercise guide to happiness. In April 2016, Jelbert released a new narrative of happiness, 25 Days. His alternative careers guide, Jobs Verse will be published in June 2016, and he is currently working on a series of five illustrated children's books about five happiness animals. (publisher and release date TBC).Jelbert was born in Cornwall, the far South Western edge of the United Kingdom, and grew up on a fourth generation family farm two miles outside of Penzance. Yes, the Penzance that made the Pirates famous. Jelbert's childhood was spent walking the cows in for milking after school, sorting through potatoes on the harvester, and driving the tractor while Jelbert's parents and grandparents cut cauliflower. By age eighteen, Jelbert had developed an aptitude for languages, thanks in part to the many conversations with the girls next door during the family's holiday trips to Brittany.Jelbert left the farm to study modern languages at Exeter University. After graduating, Reuters offered Jelbert a job translating French and German market information into English. Over the next ten years Jelbert worked in London, Geneva, and New York and took a year-long assignment to India in 2005 before relocating to Sydney in 2006. Jelbert became an Australian citizen in July 2010. After a year living in Denver, Colorado, Jelbert now lives in New York. He has appeared in two interviews with the BBC in the UK, and participates in the annual 'Happiness and its Causes' world happiness conference in Sydney, Australia. He also receives commissions to write articles on happiness. Jelbert continues his studies of happiness and psychology through Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK.

A new approach to turning a life around

I received a review copy from the author and I was blown away. This really is simple things to do and refocus on to make your life more pleasant. There can always be things in your life that you can approach differently, see the good in, and the Happiness Animal is a way to start looking at them.
The author went through some very troubling things, hit bottom, and turned his life around and is now showing others how to do the same. A great investment in your life, the book is an indepth look at an entire life's direction --one to happiness and contentment without frustration and resentment.

The Happiness Animal is a life changing experience. Author Will Jelbert delivers an insightful and intelligent look at what happiness is and how to achieve it. The book delves into philosophy, science, psychology and introspection while providing excellent guidance on how to achieve happiness in your life.

Jelbert’s engaging anecdotes allow the reader to relate to each situation and learn the happiness components demonstrated in them. Reading this book is like talking with a dear friend and receiving the guidance and care you need. Learning that happiness is obtainable and that it is something you can have now is inspiring. Jelbert explains that many people spend their lives thinking they will be happier if they have more time, money, et cetera, but the truth is you can achieve sustained happiness now. The exercises provided in the book are mind-opening and truly helpful. They will help strength your happiness animal and enrich your life. I am so happy to have discovered this book and to have the tools now to make myself truly happy. I am grateful to Will Jelbert for sharing this brilliant guide with the world. I highly recommend it!

Honest and Simple book which is very interesting!!!

The Happiness Animal is such an interesting book which helps us understand what really makes one happy through short stories which are so real and believable. Will writes in such a simple way which helped me visualize everything he said. I read the book in one go and I will be reading it again and again so that i can start exercising my happiness animal properly

About the Author

Bob Smale is a Senior Lecturer at University of Brighton Business School where he has been closely involved in developing the undergraduate business skills programme with Julie Fowlie. His teaching includes employee relations together with aspects of organisational behaviour and human resource management, and his research interests include employee relations and pedagogy. Bob has a background in the banking industry and employee relations. He was formerly a part-time professional musician and is also a qualified aromatherapist. He has worked in further, adult and higher education for almost three decades, as well as delivering personal skills training, mostly in the public and voluntary sectors.

Julie Fowlie is a Principal Lecturer at University of Brighton Business School, where she has been closely involved in developing the undergraduate business skills programme with Bob Smale. Her teaching includes aspects of management, organisational behaviour and human resource management. She has research interests in emotional intelligence and pedagogy. Julie previously worked in the finance industry in a senior management position also having had experience as a bond dealer. She is also a qualified swimming coach and lifeguard. Julie has taught in further, adult and higher education and runs her own training business, most recently designing and delivering a management development programme for a private sector organisation.

This book is written for a British audience, but the content and advise are transferable to any academic system of higher learning. The advice is very practical and on target from my experience. Highly recommended for someone who teaches new students are any person new to the university setting that needs a general guide for success.

Purple vs Red

I have the original purple booklet published by Dr, Westman. I lost 37 pounds following the diet in the original book. I was excited to be notified that a new Red booklet was out by Dr. Westman. I ordered it thinking there would be a host of new information. It was the same exact great information with a few additions that do not change the original diet. So with that said, order the 2nd booklet and you will have all that Dr Westman has to offer. There is no need to order both.

Terrific resource for my patients

As a psychologist, this book has enormous value, and welcomed simplicity, for many of my clients. It is an easy resource for me to give to people. I have myself followed this approach, lost 20% of my body weight (50 pounds), and am keeping it off. This works. It is NOT a detailed book. It is a handy reference for the first reader. If you're serious about weight loss, buy, and then follow, this.

Helmut Newton (1920-2004) was one of the most influential photographers of all time. He first achieved international fame in the 1970s while working principally for French Vogue, and became celebrated for his controversial scenarios, bold lighting, and striking compositions in street or interior settings, rather than studios. His many titles and awards included Commandeur de l Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

The Centerpiece of my Apartment

Having just received my copy of Helmut Newton's SUMO all I can say is AMAZING. This is not just a book, but a work of art. As a bibliophile I felt I had to have what I believe is the most important book published this century...and I was not let down. The reproduction in the book is as good as I've seen and the book and stand make a beautiful addition to my apartment...a coffee table book with it's own coffee table....fabulous.

Book of Beautiful "Big Nudes"

"Sumo" is a wonderful collection of the best of Helmut Newton's unique vision. Fortunately, this edition is not as large and heavy of the original edition about which the fascinating documentary film was made (it's worth renting the film to see). If this was the original edition("Helmet Newton's SUMO") it would be too big and too heavy for the coffee table and would need a special reinforced reading stand just to comfortably view the photographs. That original edition also had a hefty retail price in the $5,000 range. That original edition is now selling for $14,000 new and $9,353 used. This edition is actually a much more practical photographic book. And it won't collapse most people's coffee table. It's also a bargain price-wise.
Helmut Newton had a fascinating life and his autobiography/memoir ("Newton Helmut: Autobiography") is also an amazing read. (Feel free to read my Amazon Review of that volume). It's great because the book documents his escape from Nazi Berlin and his flight around the world to escape the Nazi Death Squads. He obviously did escape but only because he became a nomadic gigolo and that tale (no pun) provides glimpses into the famous photographer's personality. It helps the reader understand why every Jew living in Germany didn't immediately flee the country before it was too late for millions of them.
The biography also tells the stories behind many of the photos in "Sumo." Now that "Sumo" is available at a reasonable price, every serious fan or collector of Newton's work needs to add it to their collection. Ditto for his "Autobiography" if a copy can be located.

Poor production values let this book down.

I remember seeing the original version of Sumo at a Powell's bookstore and wanting it very much. I woulda, coulda, shoulda bought it but its huge size killed the deal; there was just no where that I could safely store it.
Thus, when I stumbled upon this book here on Amazon it took me all of 30 seconds to decide to pull the trigger. Why the hesitation? Primarily because it is a Taschen publication and I have been disappointed by the quality of nearly every Taschen book I have ever handled. This one, unfortunately, is no different, and I believe that I shall return it for a different and, said hopefully, better copy for that reason (One of the pages in my book has errant ink lines running up a quarter of the page from what looks like a roller). I also have a problem with Amazon for shipping me a book with a large tear in the custom made carrying case in which the book comes, by the way, indicating crappy quality control.
This is a an oversized folio book, large and heavy and imposing like the original in miniature. Its immensity indicates that it needed the space in order to do the photographic images justice. Well, I suppose that it does but the problem is that the plates are mealy looking, especially those in the front part of the book. I don't have the original to compare them to but I suspect that this granularity is due to poor reprodutions in the book and not from the original plates; although it is conceivable that the images lost some sharpness due to being blown up, but barely.
Instead, I would argue, based upon my experience with Taschen specifically and Printed in Italy artbooks generally that the fault lies in the Italian printers. These days the best art books are produced in Germany or Japan. Back in the old days it would have been France and in second place Switzerland and USA. Prestel seems to consistently do the best art books these days and it causes me to wonder what the book would have been like if published by them.
Anyway, you still ought to own this, I think, if you collect art books and you must own it if you collect art photography books.
While a lot of the images are seemingly banal or a bit facile, others have a quirky absurdity or stark profundity that cause one to really look twice at these images.
Interestingly, Newton's portraits are often absolutely brilliant. I think that the female Rolling Stone photographer whose name escapes me is generally the most reknowned portrait photographer but I think it would be tough to argue against Mr. Newton's genius.
His Hockney is sublime, among others, one of his Taylor portraits captures her genius/appeal completely, and actually there are a dozen portraits that seem to have completely captured the essential nature of his subjects (Marianne Faithful, Marie LePen). Others are just inexplicably fantastic (Warhol...hmmm one wonders if there was professional envy/competition between the two, and John Malchevic whose filmic nuttiness is captured perfectly). I could go on but you get the picture.
To be honest, I initially hoped and anticipated that the book would have a lot of this nudes because I can't think of another photographer who can put so much blatant sexuality into supposedly high fashion soft-core photographs. The overall quality of the non-nude pictures more than makes up for their absence.
If the book itself were of higher quality it would deserve five stars.
