This book is written in a way that is easy to understand. I bought this for my son recently after he finished high school. I was a bit skeptical due to the low price associated with it. He's been considering the field for some time, but it seemed as though he lacked in guidance and direction. There were times when he wasn't even sure if this area of expertise was right for him. He spoke to councilors at the local college, but he often returned more confused than before. One person told him that his grades would have to be nearly perfect for him to even consider a place in the field. At that point, I think he was about to give up. After a week of giving him this book, however, it all changed for the better. I decided to take a peak at it myself, just to see if it was in fact the book, or mere coincidence.

The information is well laid out, the writer is clearly writing from experience. I liked how it was designed to apply to the person with perfect grades, but also for the person who struggled a bit. A clear plan is available in either case. My son currently enrolled in a community college, in hopes to "make up" for what he missed in high school. Before, community college would have been the beginning and end for him. But now he talks about trying to get accepted into a nearby university. It's worth mentioning, that the information provided in regards to which schools to attend, is worth the purchase price alone. This will allow a person with interest to develop a plan of their own, that is based on their individual situation and needs. I believe that this book has helped him feel more confident in his goal, and has also provided him with several options that previously were unavailable to him. He now has a very clear plan for his future, and I think that this book is to thank for that.

Great book with first-person insight like no other....

If you are dedicated to getting a career in architecture, this is a wonderful book. I am definitely going that path, but I picked the book because i was a little intrigued to learn what it actually takes to become an architect (plus it was free at the time). The best aspects of the book were the first-person detailed information provided in this book. Unlike other career books I came across, this book provided really specific information that any architectural student (at every level) would love to know such as:
1. What you should you take in high school and why
2. What you should put in your portfolio
3. How to become an architectural student when you are a transfer
4. How to get into architectural with less than stellar grades
Some of this information is provided in other career books, but not with the insight of this book.

The second good part about the book is the depth of information. From the looks of almost every accredited architecture school is included. There is also a detailed and highly specific (but adaptable) course plan. All of this is something that I haven't seen in any career book.

The book is a little weak on non-architectural stuff, like financial aidl however it serves its purpose. The book is an excellent read that I would recommend to any person even remotely interested in architecture to get an idea of the commitment involved. I even learned a few things myself.

This well written book is a perfect guide for anyone who would like to graduate as an architect.

The book will introduce you to how to get accepted in an architecture school, and learning what you need to know in order to select the right architecture school for you. It also offers a step by step guide to getting into architecture schools.

I loved the hints the author explores in this book: What classes to take in high school or community college, how to build experience that architecture departments want, ways to stimulate your creativity and who to choose for recommendation letters

I enjoyed reading this book and I will recommend it to all inspiring architecture students.

Great book

I had to purchase this book for my Crime and Behavior course and I really enjoyed reading through this book. It is a somewhat tedious read and it has a lot of information but the information is valid and very helpful. I kept this book, among a few, from college courses. This book will definitely help me in my career to just have around to make reference to.

Great General Introduction

A most interesting book about crime in virtually all of its aspects from terrorism to the impact of nature vs. nurture on creating a criminal, from a basic discussion of what is crime to does prison help reduce crime. It is particular interesting in that in most cases the evidence gathered from studies of the problems is conflicting. For instance in the discussion on the trend in many states to allow more people to carry concealed handguns the authors quote several different surveys and studies that have been conducted and which can be used to support any view you may choose to hold. This procedure is used in many of the more controversial views held in our present culture.

The book is well researched, well written and does not generally take any kind of a position, leaving that up to the reader. Further in each general area they discuss, a list of their sources are given so that the reader wanting more information on that area will know what they used to base their statements.

Great to use as a source for a paper

I am working on my graduate degree in Criminal Justice, I bought this book as a source for my 20 page term paper. I have been stocking up on used criminal justice books all semester to use as sources for my 20 page term paper. I figure it is easier to just buy them for cheap so I can highlight them and make other notes on them instead of renting something from the library that I have to return. Out of all of the books that I bought, I found myself relying on this one the most because it is the easiest to read, it puts things into perspective and has a lot of useful information. I know I will use this as a source for other classes to come so I cannot be happier with this purchase.

Almost Home is an Amazing Book

I love it, I love it, I love it! The writing, the story is sooo well written its easy to imagine the scenes because the language is easy to understand. I can see a movie created out of "Almost Home". I loved how you mentioned the mighty Assyrians and fasting of Nineveh, that was Unforgettable!!. I enjoyed when you were describing Lebanon and the beautiful country it really is/was to live in and how their identity is tied to mighty Assyria. I like how you mentioned America and the great opportunities behind it. All in all the book is spectacular there is really more to talk about, but you have to earn a copy to truly understand what "Almost Home" is about.

Brilliant

I am in love with the title of this book, it really sums up what it is all about. Ninar's perspective reminds me of my very own and believe that she has given me a voice. The book was very emotive and personal, felt like I was reading a secret diary. I want to thank the author for writing this book and would encourage her to write another one of her next step in life. I recommend this book to anyone that has migrated to a western country or experienced tradional cultures; It is simple yet informative.

A must read!

"Almost Home" is a wonderful book that really draws you in by revealing the trials of a young woman's life. The author does a fine job at depicting the meaning of being torn between two countries, both equally holding a place in her heart. "Almost Home" is a good read for all ages, but I highly recommend the book for young people who have lost sense of hope, dreams, and ultimately, home.
