Each chapter is very short. Only 1-2 labs on each chapter which contain only source code without comment and then just end with screenshot of result of the lab. Author never explain how the code is running. Just show only conclude of each labs something "if success, your output should be like this.."

I'm poor.

I'm a very serious cook. I finally bought this book and it's one of the most fascinating things I've ever read. Most single pages of this book are more beneficial than entire cookbooks combined. Even if you aren't totally into the whole molecular gastronomy thing, you can pick up so so much from this book. I could get into more detail about how it is organized and laid out but the book is so magical it doesn't do it justice. I would spend a couple of thousand dollars to own this if I had to and trust me, I'm poor.

We looked at this book when it first came out - Neil Gaiman put me on to it 'cos Dave McKean did the illustrations - he and Mr Gaiman have done awesome work together.

So I dragged my partner to this bookshop, and asked them to open the book - it's wrapped in plastic and covered with cardboard which is also wrapped in plastic and then in a cardboard box. Which - you guessed it - is also wrapped in plastic. Very recycling friendly.

Anyway, way back then they opened up this book and we spent an hour or so looking through. It was amazing - I was blown away by the art, my partner was really into the science behind the recipes.

We didn't buy it then. I wanted to but we were looking at $500+ and he wasn't that excited. So I bought The Complete Calvin and Hobbes (which is also awesome!).

Then he started watching Heston on tv, understanding more about how chefs get their ideas, thinking about what he does when he cooks... So I finally got this for him and he was the most happy I've ever seen him. Seriously.

This is something that he'll treasure for ever, drool over, wear gloves while he turns the pages and drip food over while he tries the recipes. And I love it because I think Dave McKean is AWESOME. And I like food that has been loved while it was built.

Possibly a specialist book, but honestly your average food geek will love it!

The most astounding cookbook!

This book is pretty symbolic of how Heston Blumenthal cooks: it's done to perfection. The book is incredibly massive and filled with beautiful photography and brilliant artwork.

The first third of the book is the entire history of the Fat Duck, which includes a lot of Heston's philosophies about food and engaging the senses.

The middle of the book is packed with recipes, many are famous, some are not, and a couple never made it onto the menu. Each dish includes some background, and complete, exacting recipes for every component. These are not simplified for home cooks and call for many obscure ingredients and pieces of equipment. These are the exact recipes used in the restaurant.

The last third of the book is a veritable textbook of food chemistry, with articles by a handful of scientists who have worked with Heston over the years. For disciples of Heston's style of cooking, this will likely be the most useful part of the book.

The price tag may seem steep, but for any serious cook, it is an invaluable tome of information. While the Alinea cookbook was very sterile and straight-forward, the Fat Duck book is much more engaging and playful. And besides, it's pretty much the ultimate coffee table book for foodies.

Excellent book!!

I am a architect trained in AutoCAD. Developing a familiarity many years ago with Sketchup as a design tool, took no small amount of effort, due largely to the fact that the two software's have many differences. Over the years I have utilized Sketchup mainly as a design/presentation tool. However, in the last few years I have tried to familiarize myself with sketchup in the Construction Document Phase of a project - hence Sketchup Layout! Working with Layout quickly manifested future alienation from AutoCAD's process. Purchasing and working through Matt Donley's "Sketchup to Layout" book has lessened the learning curve - something one cannot bill the client for!

This book is most helpful for beginners as well as more seasoned users of Sketchup/Layout. Text as well as graphics explain a presented process in a most user friendly manner. The format of text, graphics, illustrations, tips, etc. flows easily & logically from the book. Presented material is bundled and categorized in a manner that allows for ease of study as well as present & future reference. I particularly appreciated the "step-by-step" method of presentation of a given subject.

The author seems to have a excellent grasp of knowledge with Sketchup as well as Layout, particularly when comparing this book with many other books on similar subject(s).

I would highly recommend this book to any professional in any applicable field as well as a non-professional utilizing the software for a personal application.

No Nonsense Guide to Layout in SketchUp

If your design work is your bread and butter, this is THE way to learn how to produce production drawings from SketchUp Pro models. Matt takes you through setting up Layout's sheets, building a template and then sorts through the sometimes obscure settings and pitfalls in the transition to published drawings. The tips alone are worth the read. I Highly recommend this text be in your SketchUp Library.

Excellent presentation of a difficult subject!

I have have been a SketchUp user since it was first released by @Last, well before they were bought by Google. As a full-time woodworker, SketchUp is indispensable to me. When LayOut was introduced as a part of the SketchUp Pro package, I could see it's potential benefit in preparing client presentations for my custom furniture designs, but somehow it's connection to SketchUp was a bit too obscure & confusing to me.
I bought Matt Donley's ebook several months ago & it opened up a whole new world in the use of SketchUp. Matt is a natural educator & he knows his subject extremely well. SketchUp To LayOut covers LayOut and its integration with SketchUp thoroughly and in a well-ordered, step-by-step manner that is comprehensive and easy to follow. In addition, Matt covers several functions of SketchUp that I had never fully understood.
After reading his book, I upgraded to include the accompanying videos. These are excellent as well!

A bit older than I was hoping.

This play would be hysterically funny and cynical when performed by a community theatre. I, however, was searching for something for my middle school students to perform. Sadly, this was not the play for us. Though I am glad that I read it and have it in my script library, it was not the play I was expecting.

Pick Hall 213. No nameplate on the wooden door along the dark concrete hallway. I knocked. And waited. I could hear low level conversation going on behind the door and the rustling of papers. I knocked again. I could hear footsteps approach the door.
"Can I help you?" asked the head of a graduate student peering out the door opened only a crack.

"I'm looking for Marvin Zonis. Is this his office?"

"Yes. Do you have an appointment?" The crack in the door did not widen.

"Do I need one? Isn't this when he has office hours? How do I make an appointment?" I fumbled for words. As a new student at The University of Chicago, a naïve young white girl from Wisconsin, I let myself be intimidated. Behind this door was someone hard at work on questions that mattered in the real world. I wanted to be part of that; so I kept showing up at office hours in the fall of 1980 until my persistence paid off with a graduate research assistantship working with Marvin Zonis.

The following September, it would be my blond head that popped out that door when new students knocked. Inside that office, bookshelves lined three walls and the fourth wall of windows looked out onto the Quad, the lush green campus of Hyde Park. Persian rugs on the floor, lamps on the desk and filing cabinet, plants everywhere; this is where I began thinking about the impact of local culture on larger political and economic forces and vice versa. Marvin and his research assistants spread out newspapers, government documents, notes, and ideas across a large wooden seminar table. The conversations held inside Pick 213 changed forever my understanding of how the world works.

Hard to Process

I'm not an expert on Chinese Art but i do know something about art history so I was looking for a text to give me more depth in the subject. I have to say i find this text very dense and hard to follow. You may prefer it's organizational principle- with chapters on "Art in the Tomb" or "Art at Court" or "Art in the Temple"- i know many do- but I do not. For instance as a novice I find Michael Sullivan's "The Arts of China" easier to digest. Just my opinion.

Decent quality - not my preference

I bought this book for my Art History class. I barely opened this book because the concepts were confusing. The pictures were of decent quality, but there were very few of them. I would prefer an art book to have more pictures.

I've been a huge fan of Maya Angelou for decades now. I have had the great honor of having seen Maya Angelou speak twice before a live audience... She was a phenomenal speaker!!

I recently read the hardback edition of Mom & Me & Mom by Maya Angelou. This book captured my interested due to the unique relationship between mothers and daughters and also because, I wanted to learn more about the relationship Maya Angelou had with her mother.

I thought Mom & Me & Mom by Maya Angelou was overall a good read and would recommend this book to others. My only major complaint is that many of the life events that Maya Angelou discusses in this particular book have also been discussed in her other books. So, I only learned a few new things about her life that I didn't know before, which was disappointing to me as I wasn't expecting so much of Mom & Me & Mom to be a rehash of what I'd already read in her other books.

All mothers deserve a thank you

Expected a lot more from Ms. Angelou, but this is not "I Know Why a Caged Bird Sings." If you've read any of her other books, in "Mom" you'll come across similar passages. It's a simple tribute to her mother, written in simple declarative sentences. I got the feeling she wrote it because she felt she owed her mother a 'thank you.' All mothers deserve a thank you. It's clear that her mother's love and support enabled Ms. Angelou to share her talents with the world.

Not quite what I expected.

This is my first book by Maya Angelou. It was a quick read (one afternoon in about 3 hours) and I enjoyed the story of her relationship with her mother. Angelou's mother is a very colorful character and is what makes this book so interesting. I have only really ever just heard about Maya Angelou and it was very interesting to me to read about her life which was very different than what I thought it was. The only problem I had with the book was that I felt there were large gaps in the story- she seemed to just jump from one thing to another and I would have to re-read to figure out if she was changing subjects, or jumping to another moment in time, or what. It wasn't quite what I was expecting. I think I was expecting something a little more in depth. However, it was an enjoyable read. I will now look to read her "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings" because I've been reading about how much better it is than this. Linda Muse

Great Tips, but hard to find them - Get your highlighter ready

This is a good book for XT-1 users. However as expert tips I have to weed through a bunch of general photography knowledge material just to find camera specifics. And its not like you can just skip parts that seem familiar as all the gems are buried. This makes this book hard to use on a practical level and will require several reads and camera time.

For example, there is an entire section on using JPG+RAW presenting arguments for the case. Most of this applies to any photography, but buried in there is specifically what the camera does better for internal JPG than post processing allows.

Over all, the gems of Fuji specific data are worth the purchase, just expect that you would have to work for them. Save your self a lot of time on the second read, highlight the good stuff as you go. The Author would help us all if there were a couple of pages in an appendix which just pointed out the gems and cross referenced some page numbers for more info.

Great info on XT1 and Digital Image Making!

After a long hiatus (as film died, so had my passion for photography), I have returned to the land of light drawing. In my search for something I could understand, I found the XT-1 and its lenses with f-stop rings and bodies with mechanical shutters... something important to an old grognard as myself. I decided to go back to my original passion, and found that digital held its own secrets, its own photographic language, and this piqued my interest. This book not only covers the basic concepts one should learn to excel in photography, but also, and in plain clear speech, covers those digital nuances that will help those who want to excel in the digital realm. A great read... so glad I bought the book. Highly recommended.

Ok for beginners

A few gems of helpful information about specific Fuji X-T1 uses stuffed in the pages of some very elementary information, good only for a beginner looking to understand the basic uses of any DSLR. I wouldn't spend the $12 on this again (Kindle Version), because 95% of the information was already known to me, as I've been shooting for some years now. If you are looking to unlock the hidden secrets to your X-T1, look elsewhere. If you need a good basic understanding of photography such as ISO and the like, and how to apply that to the X-T1, this may be helpful.

Excellent coverage of pediatric mri

This is a terrific book for anyone reading musculoskeletal MRI. In most practices, pediatric patients are a relatively small percentage of patients, so it is nice to have a compendium of disease states that you should be aware of.

Text accompanying each case is also excellent, pictures are of high quality.

Text itself is highly recommended.

One caveat- skip Amazon's offer for the Online Reader at extra charge. I cannot search inside the book, only view it, a significant problem. Amazon cannot seem to fix the issue.

Must have for clinicians and radiologists who work in this field but don't buy from amazon.

The book is great!
But the quality of the paper is really bad,look like print out from PDF file from laser printer.
The images are blur , unacceptable for radiologist whose learning process depending on pictures.

I think this probably not genuine book or It is an illegal photocopy book.
don't buy from this seller. Go to bookstore and pick up one if you need it.
