Short but satisfying

If the end of Fire in the Darkness left you reeling wondering why Eli gave Ember such an icy welcome, then this novella is a must read! Beast in the Darkness gives you a peek into Eli's head during the time Ember is in the Otherworld, which is a period of four years for Eli. This novella lets you see things from his point of view and everything makes sense. Eli is seriously drool worthy and this even badder boy version of him is even hotter. This novella is short at only 27 pages but it answers some questions and will give you a little Eli fix until the next book comes out.

Lol not exactly what I was expecting from Eli's mind but I always love a second point of view. This truly let you see how much he loved her. I can't wait to read the other installments.
I wish there was more and we didn't just get snippets from his POV. Reminds me of Divergent and how we got Tobias' POV. Still a good read though. And it's free lol you can't beat that!

I bought it for my English class of next semester. The price is cheaper compared with the one in book store even with the inthernational shipping fee and import fee. I received it after ordering for 8 days. Very fast shipping for the international order of Canada. The two books which were wrapped in a plastic bag along with a cardboard were packed in a box. This process is designed for teachers who have no background in drama and work with students from 6 to 13 years old. The five chapters in the "Play(ful) Writing" section cover key elements of playwriting; dialogue, character, story, nonliteral meanings, and observation. The "Practical Projects" section gives teachers nine age-appropriate playwriting suggestions that are well detailed without becoming prescriptive. Fascinating Read

I don't often do book reviews, but I just wanted to give this series a plug. It has the most fascinating "plot" running through the series and I'm always amazed at the creative ideas that some authors are able to come up with and build into fascinating stories that keep you wanting more, even though they are totally removed from reality as we know it. I am about half way through Book 4 and I'm forcing myself to slow down because I figure it may be a while before the next book comes out - which is the reason for my review. The authors always ask readers to give reviews so that they can spend their time writing more books instead of having to spend their time marketing their current books. So, Keep on writing Teyla -- can't wait to see what you come up with next.

I read the whole series, which is odd for me. I usually read the first book, then start another book by another author, but with this series, as soon as I finished one book I'd buy the next one and not come up for air until it was time to buy the next book. The action is almost non-stop. There is something for everyone in this series. And it's clean entertainment which is rare today. After finishing the last book I wanted more since I got so attached to the characters, who are almost immortal. You will not be disappointed with these books.

Excellent series! Well Done!

I have read each of these books and literally could not put them down for long. I was completely pulled into the story and the lives of each character, I enjoyed reading these books that did not have vampire and werewolf junk in them, I also enjoyed the fact that it was not dripping in sex and cursing. In my opinion many books have an overflow and leave nothing to our own imaginations. I will say between books there was no relaxing of the suspense it built and stayed right on the edge throughout, Well done! Thank you!

OK light reading if you're interested in IT personalities

This book doesn't have any code tricks. It is just a series of interviews with people who have been instrumental in the software and IT industry over the past twenty years with an emphasis on more recent contributors. It mainly goes over how they look at problems and how they solve problems, with a good mix between their approaches to hard and soft skills. If you are a student doing a paper on the history of computing I'd say it would probably give you a pretty good look at some of the personalities involved in computing on which it is difficult to find much written. For example, James Gosling is the father of the Java language, but it is difficult to find any information on his approach to technical problems and his personality in general. This book gives you that kind of insight on Gosling and on other specific personalities that are leaders in the IT field. The final chapter on Weird Al Yankovic is rather strange, since he has nothing to do with the IT field and his intro has his qualifications listed as "The Programmer's Rock Star". I'm not sure how true that is, but it is an amusing chapter.

It's not for everyone, but it is a rare source for this kind of information.

Superficial chats with enterprise programmers

There are, roughly speaking, three worlds of programmers: the enterprise world, the startup world, and the academic world. As its ridiculous subtitle suggests, these interviews are with stars of the enterprise world, where Java and heavyweight IDEs dominate. If you don't use Spring and Eclipse, then most of the chapters will feel irrelevant to you. Personally, I'm a refugee from the Java world moving toward Ruby and Python (the languages that reign supreme in the startup world). The most pertinent interviews were with Andy Hunt and Dave Thomas, the founders of The Pragmatic Progammers. They do fine work; I'd much rather read just about any of their books than this one.

The overproduced design of this book is consistently annoying. Each interview is prefaced by a "Fact Sheet" about the rockstar programmer, with a baseball card-style breakdown of factoids. "Number of kids: Four." Uh, OK. Then the author places interjections throughout the chapter [and not just explanations on square brackets, though there are many of those] but also sidebars like: "Character attribute: Pragmatic, not excessive, optimizer." Ooookay. Why are you interrupting this interview to tell me that? It's as if the author expects me to go build a fantasy baseball team with these programmers. Then the book concludes with a totally superfluous interview with Weird Al Yankovic. Like the rest of the book, that interview doesn't know who its audience is: If you've never heard of Weird Al, it won't make you want to listen to him; and if you're already a fan, you won't learn anything new from it.

But the real problem with this book is the lack of depth. Interviewing programmers in depth without getting mired in too much technical trivia is a big challenge. Masterminds of Programming makes the opposite mistake, producing interviews that are tediously low-level. The one book of interviews with programmers that I'd recommend is Peter Seibel's outstanding Coders at Work. If you really want to know how smart programmers go about solving hard problems, that's the book to read.

great read

I found this book a great read for a variety of reasons. I don't have an IT background but I enjoy reading about groundbreakers and top performers in any field -- hence my interest in the book. The author does a great job of getting at why these folks are RockStars and how they all think about programming and software. But it also does a great job of getting at the issues they face that we all share -- how do I keep up with the deluge of information in my field, how do I stay current with trends and changes in the industry, how do I maintain a work/life balance, etc? And for those with an IT background, there is some very technical information as well. And with the great interview with Weird Al at the end, there is something here for everyone. You'll find value in this book if you don't know COBOL from Ajax, are in CS 101, or are a 20 year industry veteran.

The book begins by discussing the importance of mind Schemas and how important they are to the way we perceive things. Techniques such as using cognition logs or situational pyramids and actionable tactics like flooding or distancing are covered.Negative affirmations are discussed in detail and the book goes in depth on the Mind-Shift Techniques to eliminate negative thoughts including gratefulness and harmony. There are many techniques, concepts, and examples in this book that can be applied in creating more positive thoughts.

Very informative and helpful book!

Negative thoughts always, always going to be in the head, the author CK Murray did a great job in this book, explaining how your brain receipts more bad beliefs and feelings, etc. This book is very good, I didn't know much about mind shift in humans, but there are many ways to empty all that negativity and problems that we think we are ourselves and we get hurt unknowingly.

About the Author

David Healy is professor emeritus of history at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. His other books include The United States in Cuba, 1898–1902; Drive to Hegemony: The United States in the Caribbean, 1898–1917; and Gunboat Diplomacy in the Wilson Era: The U.S. Navy in Haiti, 1915–1916.

A great book for the understanding of American imperialism.

This book gives a great overview of the age of Imperialism, which served as an intellectual basis for the development of American imperialism in the 1890's. The book chooses to call the American imperialism of the period "expansionism", and traces its philosophical origins to American thinking about its position and role in the Western Hemisphere, as it developed throughout the Nineteenth Century. The book discusses the different points of view of American intellectuals and politicians of the 1890's regarding The attitude of the United States toward the prevaling
Imperialism of the period, and how U.S. Imperialism in Asia and Latin America should develop at the moment of its inception.
This is an excellent book with an impressive study of American
Imperialism and expansionism of the1890's.
